The Difference Between Amateurs and Professionals
Why is it that some people seem to be hugely successful and do so much, while the vast majority of us struggle to tread water?
The answer is complicated and likely multifaceted.
One aspect is mindsetâspecifically, the difference between amateurs and professionals.
Amateurs believe that the world should work the way they want it to.Professionals realize that they have to work with the world as they find it.
Amateurs stop when they achieve something.Professionals understand that the initial achievement is just the beginning.
Amateurs blame others.Professionals accept responsibility.
Amateurs have a goal.Professionals have a process.
Amateurs focus on being right.Professionals focus on getting the best outcome.
Amateurs think disagreements are threats.Professionals see them as an opportunity to learn.
Amateurs give up at the first sign of trouble and assume theyâre failures.Professionals see failure as part of the path to growth and mastery.
Amateurs show up inconsistently.Professionals show up every day.
There are a host of other differences, but they can effectively be boiled down to mindset.
Luck aside, which approach do you think is going to yield better results?
How To Stop Caring About Small Things
How can we stop wasting time on unimportant details?
From meetings at work that drag on forever without achieving anything to weeks-long email chains that donât solve the problem at hand, we seem to spend an inordinate amount of time on the inconsequential.
You donât have enough time to do everything in life. So here's how you can let go of worrying about what doesnât matter:
How will being anxious about this serve me?
Am I really trying my best or just telling myself I am?
Do I really need to answer this right now?
Stop waiting for perfection
Realize you canât predict the future
Accept your best
đ¤ A Tiny ThoughtÂ
"Just because you failed doesnât mean you canât succeed. We all fail. Mentally resilient people realize that its not failure that defines your identity but how you respond."
